Photography: Onkaparinga Hike

Early December this past year I decided it was time for an upgrade and bought a new camera, which ended up being a bit of an ordeal. I like photography but it can be an expensive hobby with a lot of confusing terms and specifications, especially when you start buying new lenses or camera bodies. Anyway, I managed to acquire a decent one for a decent price (though missing a battery, which was just another unnecessary challenge), but due to Christmas and all its appointments I struggled to find a time to play with it.

Long story short: I finally found time! An unexpected week off at work was perfect for a long hike through nature and to test it out. Unfortunately I’m still getting used to the new gear and only noticed once I was home that while its autofocus is quick it isn’t very accurate. Ah well, something to work on. Please enjoy regardless!

Right at the start of my walk was this lovely little magpie surveying the treeline. I fear that I’m getting into bird-watching, Wingspan has awakened something within me.

It was an absolute sweat getting to the bottom of the gorge to see the river, especially because the winding nature of the path really obfuscates your progress. But I didn’t get lost for two hours like last time, so hey that’s an improvement.

I love this lizard. I just tried to identify him and I believe it’s an Eastern Water Skink (correct me if I’m wrong!). I didn’t see it at first because I was distracted by the rock ahead of him that looks like it has a pair of googly eyes. I don’t think he saw me either because he was enamoured with his reflection, thus I have dubbed him Narcissus.

Thanks for strolling through another one of my little galleries. I admit this wasn’t my most exciting one, but I mainly just wanted some nice exercise and to test out the camera. Embarrassingly I did actually intend to have a lovely session at the Hahndorf Lavender Estate Farm during the lavender bloom, but I forgot to bring an SD card. It was legitimately heartbreaking. Anyways, have a lovely day, remember to drink water!
