Welcome to my blog, whoever you are.
I never saw myself trying to write something like this, but I loved the idea of having a private corner of the internet where I could voice my opinions about the topics that I hold interest in. To that end, I’ve started this blog, with two purposes in mind.
Firstly, I have a lot of hobbies.
Or at least, I have dipped my toes into a variety of different hobbies. I love finally noticing things that before my eyes simply glazed over, but after participating in its creation myself now reveals a deep complexity and history. The downside to this jack-of-all-trades approach to art and other subjects is that I have a plethora of half-started projects that will likely never see the light of day nor anything resembling completion. I hope that with somewhere to post my creations and give a short description of my experience with it, I may feel compelled to actually complete more of them.
Secondly, I think about games far too much.
As someone who engages with games in a myriad of ways, I wanted to justify how much time I spend thinking about them. I find game design to be a fascinating topic, regardless of the medium. I may not particularly enjoy sports, but I do have to acknowledge the design and mechanics which made them so popular. I frequently dabble in board games too, and want to create homebrew expansions for them as love letters to their creators. As for video games, what I would call my primary passion, I plan to write on topics adjacent to titles I wish to spotlight, and to run a semi-regular recommendation station to shout out smaller or less-traveled games. I also plan to use this as an excuse to expand my own relationship with new developers and genres. For my reviews or recommendations, I believe that the best critic isn’t necessarily the one you agree with but the one who is consistent to themselves. I don’t intend to keep up with new releases or big titles, nor is it really sustainable for me to dedicate myself to being an indie hunter. Similarly I don’t plan on reviewing anything I haven’t enjoyed or played thoroughly. I just aim to talk about what I love or find hard not to talk about, try and articulate it well, and hopefully introduce you to something you’ll enjoy.
Finally, I’m free and human.
What I look forward to most of all is making a space on the internet that doesn’t ask for any of your data, doesn’t show ads, and doesn’t cost money. Someday I may add a donation button, providing this site becomes something I am proud of, but that will always be my limit. I would love to create some form of community, and until that day comes, enjoy this free corner of the internet, made by humans, for humans.
